Hi, I’m Ian.

me standing in front of a bear

I build e-commerce software at Kestrel, where we make checkout and membership tools for WooCommerce and Shopify stores. The fancy way to say it is “I help people sell more online.” The honest way is “I push buttons and do computer.”

I learned to code a little bit while working with a charitable organization called CodeDoesGood, then landed at SkyVerge, where I discovered that really great developers are more amazing than I’ll ever be. I just wanted to learn how to do what they did.

I came up through support, eventually running it through the GoDaddy acquisition, which taught me what operating at massive scale actually looks like.

Now I run Kestrel in partnership with the former founders of SkyVerge. We serve around 20,000 stores. I’m unreasonably into support.

When I’m not working, I’m with my kids. I have seven of them. Friday is movie night, where I subject them to films from decades ago and pretend I’m cultured. I’m also trying to get good at chess, but I’m not good at chess.

I’m on WP Product Talk if you’re into that sort of thing. Otherwise, this site is just where I write stuff down when I feel like it.
